scouting report

To say that Marlboro Class of 2023 quarterback AJ Schwartz had a big impact on his team in 2021 might be the understatement of the century.

Schwartz helped lead the Mustangs to their first winning season in more than two decades with a 7-3 campaign, but those numbers do not show just how transformational this past season was for Marlboro.

Here is a fact that might, though: the seven wins in 2021 equaled the amount of one-win and winless seasons Marlboro had over the last two decades. This is a program that has consistently struggled to win games, and then went 7-3 with Schwartz under center making plays.

This student-athlete is a leader, on and off the field. Schwartz excels in the classroom, with a 4.3 GPA, which shows he is willing to put the time in to get better in any endeavor.

On the field, he had 18 combined touchdowns, as the Mustangs piled up win after win in this historic campaign. Schwartz was pivotal under center, but also as part of the secondary that improved tremendously in 2021. The Marlboro defense held four teams under 16 points, which led to four wins.

Here is a scouting report on the two-sport (baseball) star:

“Schwartz is a mobile QB and team captain in his junior season. He has a strong, accurate arm, and completed over 65% of his passes this season. AJ torched defenses for 13 TDs via the air and another five with his legs. Schwartz was also a key member of the Marlboro secondary. He can be seen on film routinely taking down running backs at the line of scrimmage and is athletic enough to be a force in coverage. AJ also has a tremendous wingspan of 6’3” which helps his secondary play.”

After his record-breaking 2021 campaign, what does Schwartz, and Marlboro, have in store for 2022? Keep your eyes on this player and team to find out.
